La Ducha
A couple spends their last morning together in the bathroom. One of them is about to leave the country. The other has decided to stay. But who will take care of the cat?
Interview with Maria José San Martín
A couple / a daily situation / a seperation. In leaving out many words you open the situation to a brider extent. How much scripted was your film / how much change during the process of shooting and editing appeared- let us know about your approach and process.
The first approach was to create the script on the basis of improvisation, on this way we worked with Alicia Scherson, co-writer of THE SHOWER (LA DUCHA). However, when it began the process of rehearsals, we went deeper in the history of each other and in the history of them as a couple, I wanted to create a couple history and afterwards separate them, creating two different stories facing a single act. To confront the text guide, we realized that each sentence and each silence represented feelings of them and where we choose to be. The script had no more than three versions, but not each shot. Each one was different in the interpretation of the characters.
What was the starting point for you for this film?
We made 18 shots in two days, and in all of them always respected the movement plant and the script, but each one was different, characters began to become more real, to take its story and defend it. In this story we decided with Marianne Mayer-Beckh producer and Sebastian Muñoz art director shape before the set where the separation happens thus had the opportunity to compose the movements and Elisa-Manuela transit.
How close was the work with the Inti Briones, the DoP of your film?
The creation of two characters faced to the same situation
called my attention, since this point born my need to experience. Inti is a fundamental support in the atmosphere that we build, his eyes managed to capture the essence of this story. This encouraged me and reconfirmed me the idea of a sequence shoot. Thanks Inti!
What are you working on at the moment?
Ideas are always around, but I need to live with them a little more to realize them. THE SHOWER is my first audiovisual piece and its development was at a tempo that allows me to delve into the process to the creation of characters and that I want to repeat it again. You may know a quotation of Napoleon: „Dress me slowly because I am in a hurry“. It is good!
